Introduction

Welcome to the new CAEDM Wiki! This site is designed to provide useful, up-to-date information about the computing resources available in BYU's College of Engineering and Technology, by allowing the viewers the ability to update the pages.

Organization & Navigation

The content for this site is organized into articles. Each article is intended to be a 'help page' about a specific resource available to CAEDM users. Articles are grouped into categories for organization. The list of available categories should appear in a dark tan box to the left of this article.

The navigation tree to the left lists the available categories. Each category may contain articles or sub categories. Categories are distinguished by the folder icon next to the category name. Each category will also have an icon allowing the user to expand or hide the contents of the category.

To expand a category, click the [+] icon next to the category name. If the category contains articles or sub categories, they will appear indented below the category. The icon next to the category will change from a [+] to a [-], indicating that the category is now expanded.

To hide the contents of a category, click the [-] icon next to the category. The articles and sub categories will disappear. The icon next to the category will change from a [-] to a [+], allowing you to expand the category.

Viewing Articles

There are three ways to locate articles for viewing. The first is to browse through the navigation tree, explanding categories that contain relevant titles, and examining the titles of each category. When an article is found, the user simply clicks on the title of the article, and the article will be loaded.

The second option for viewing articles is to search for keywords relevant to the article. This is done using the search bar found at the top of the navigation frame. Simply enter the keywords and click the 'Search' button. A new page will load with all of the results that match the search terms, ranked in order of relevance to the terms entered.

The last option for viewing Wiki articles is to connect to the link for the article directly. If an article is referenced by an outside source, it may be loaded using the URL of the page. This should be in the form of 'http://. . . /index.php?articleID=x' where x is the article ID number. Please note that some articles are not publicly accessible, and a user must sign in prior to accessing these articles. These protected articles may not be referenced directly.

Signing in to the Wiki

Much of the content in the Wiki is available to all users browsing to this page; however, some of the content is intended only for specific groups of users. Examples of these groups might include general groups such as everyone on the web, or CAEDM users only. Content may be relevant for smaller, more specific groups, such as a capstone group, or a class, or any existing group in the CAEDM system.

To protect such content, it is necessary for a user to sign in to the Wiki before such content becomes available. Upon signing in, categories that were not previously displayed may appear. The user is now able to view the content of these categories.

To sign in to the Wiki, locate the sign-in field in the title bar in the top, right corner of this page. There should be a field for a username and for a password. Enter a valid CAEDM username and the corresponding password, and click 'GO' to sign in. Upon successfull sign-in, the field should change to display the full name of the user currently signed in. To sign out, simple click the 'Sign Out' button next to the full name.

Wiki Functions for Authenticated Users

The CAEDM Wiki allows authenticated users to control the content stored in the Wiki. Here are some of the features available to users of the CAEDM Wiki who have already signed in:

The CAEDM Wiki is intended as a powerful tool for enabling users. All changes to the CAEDM Wiki are monitored and recorded. Use of the Wiki is governed by the College Computing policy. Modifying articles in any manner inconsistant with this policy will result in appropriate action being taken against the offender.
