Editing Wiki Articles

The CAEDM Wiki provides users with more than just the ability to view web pages, it also allows users to modify and change web pages as the content for the web pages changes. For most CAEDM Wiki articles, users have the ability to make and save changes to the articles, and see those changes occur instantly.

For users who wish to keep up to date on changes made to particular pages, the CAEDM Wiki allows page changes to be "watched" or "monitored".

Editing Articles

While viewing articles in the Wiki, a user may notice information that is out-of-date or incorrect. The Wiki allows users to modify many of the articles themselves. Editing the articles is performed through a special page in the Wiki that opens the page in an editor. All changes to wiki article are recorded.

To make a change to an article in the Wiki:

  1. Sign in to the CAEDM Wiki.
  2. Load the desired article.
  3. Click the [edit this page] link in the title bar in the top right of the screen.
  4. A new page will load, allowing the following three aspects of an article to be modified:
    • The parent category of the article. This will change where the article appears in the navigation tree, and will cause the article to inherit permissions from the category in which it is placed.
      • NOTE:changing the parent category also changes the permissions associated with an article. Please make sure that in moving an article, you are not preventing users from being able to access the article.
    • The title of an article. Please make sure that the title is descriptive and relevant to the subject of the article.
    • The body of the article. This is the actual article text. This may be edited using the built-in editor to generate the HTML body of the page. While the editor is very powerful, some users might wish to modify the HTML directly. In the editor is an 'Edit HTML Source' option that will allow the editor to modify the HTML of the body directly.
  5. When the changes are made to the page, click the 'Update' Button. The page will reload as the changes are applied.
    • NOTE: the page should reload automatically. In the event that it does not, please click the link provided. Some browsers do not support automatic redirection.
  6. The changes should be applied to the new version of the page. The title bar will reflect the time and date of the most current change, with an email link to the user who made that change.
