How do I print to the CAEDM printers from my personal Windows XP laptop? Make sure you are connected to either the CAEDM network through a cat5 connection or the OIT wireless network.
NOTE: Currently printing from Windows Vista and Windows 7 is not possible. We expect to support Vista & 7 by December 2009.
- Click Start, Run and type: \\lp.et.byu.edu\
- You will be prompted for your user name and password.
- A list of printers will appear.
- Select the printer you want and authenticate again.
- Printers are denoted by the following codes: bldg name, room number, printer type
- For example cb423psc is in the Clyde Bldg, Room 423, and is a Color Postscript Printer
- You will be asked to install the printer drivers.
- In the CAEDM Labs, these are the installed printers:
- CB308
- B&W - HP LaserJet 4100 - cb308ps
- CB423
- B&W - HP LaserJet 9040 - cb423ps
- Color - HP Color LaserJet 5500 - cb423psc
- CT450
- B&W - HP LaserJet 9040 - ct450ps
- Color - HP Color LaserJet 5500 - ct450psc
- You will need to download the print driver from HP
- Once installed the printer will appear with your other printers.
- In order for the printing to be at its optimal speed, you will also need to either turn off the Windows XP Firewall, or adjust it to allow File/Printer sharing to ANY computer, rather just to the local subnet
- Open the Control Panel
- Click on Windows Firewall
- Select the Exceptions Tab at the top
- In Programs and Services, highlight File and Print Sharing and select Edit
- Highlight each Port and click on Change Scope
- Select the Any Computer button and click OK
- Do this for all the Ports
- When done, click OK until you are exited from the Firewall windows.
