BYU has remote Linux desktop and application access available through XLaunch. To acess a remote Linux desktop you must download and install the XLaunch Xwindows client. to Install the Client follow these steps:
- Download and run the client found here.
- When the Installer is done initializing, click Next.
- After examining and Accepting the Licence, click Next again.
- If you would like to install to somewhere other than the default directory (C:\Program Files\XLaunch) please specifiy it here. Otherwise, click Next.
- If you would like to specify a different Start menu program folder other than the default(XLaunch), please specify it here. Otherwise, click Next.
- If you would like to create desktop Icons, you can check the box here. Then click Next.
- Review your install options. If they look correct, please click Install.
- When installtion is finished, click Finish. You can check the box "Launch XLaunch" if you would like to initilize a remote connection right away.
The Installer will have created three shortcuts. Desktop 1 and 2 are preconfigured to connect you as shown below:
- XLaunch
- Desktop 1 - linuxdesktop1.et.byu.edu
- Desktop 2 - linuxdesktop2.et.byu.edu
